Mitsumi intimidate pose!

Ririka really needs to just f**k off though, seriously.

Time. • 10 months ago

"But don’t you ever show your face to me ever again"

Acting like she hasn’t been chasing him, the audacity lol

Anime & Rutabagas • 10 months ago

Was so satisfying to see Shima tell Ririka to free him lol

ohmiodio • 10 months ago

She's just a big kiddo. you can see it in the car after what she thinks.
and i mean she said all those things but in a way she told him to go do whatever he wants, hence the Thanks Shima gives while picking up the cap.

Ohms Nuttachai • 10 months ago

I really hate when she guilt trip Shima's mom. Girl. Mind your own damn bussiness!

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 10 months ago

And she was proud of herself, the nerve.

ohmiodio • 10 months ago

i mean, we dont know what happened. she may have some reasons. but the smile was totally mean.

Idfk • 10 months ago

We literally do know. They went to a party with underage drinking, something scandalous happened. It was her fault for going when he said not to.

ohmiodio • 10 months ago

it wasnt referred to that but rather to her animosity towrds Shima's Mother.
obviously what happened between Shima and Ririka is understood at this point,

Masumi • 10 months ago

But how is that related to the mum "pressuring" Shima into acting? That part surprised me, and I still don't get it.

Chibi-Chibu*-* • 10 months ago

In the past it was shown right that shima only did acting for her smile. So something along that line

reiko • 10 months ago

Ririka is only character I didn't like in this series..even in manga later!!

WorldGN18 • 10 months ago

I was so happy that our boy finally broke free from her, it was so satisfying

Lord • 10 months ago

She did what we all wanted her to do.

mrackermann • 10 months ago

What did she do?idm spoilers

Far Feather • 10 months ago

I actually don't know I haven't read the manga.

Ohms Nuttachai • 10 months ago

Ririka approaching Shima
Mitsumi: "\(°_°)/"
Mitsumi used Tamandua Barrier. It's super effective!

Seriously don't care about Ririka's regret, TBH. I'd rather have that slowly build up than a huge exposition since I barely care about her character. I'm more feeling bad for Shima's mom since she was called off just for wanting to see her son's play. I'd rather see her redemption arc than Ririka, NGL.

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 10 months ago

Yeah, I feel like this episode will just make more people side with Sousuke's mother. I don't even feel the whole "He was acting for you" makes her so bad she's a villain, Sousuke did it because it made her happy, I don't think there's anything wrong with him wanting to make his mother happy.

All she did was rob his mother the chance to see her son's efforts in school and she was proud of that.

Judgment526 • 10 months ago

Mitsumi really is like a small animal, lol

Starts out as a duckling>then a cat> And finally anteater! - The Evolution of Mitsumi

Indivix • 10 months ago

Don't forget the mouse in between the cat and the anteater, though ;)

EM • 10 months ago

It was so sad to see Shima's mom leaving... DAMN YOU RIRIKA
Mitsumi is a national treasure
So Ririka actually kinda sorta realizes her wrongdoings. Doesn't excuse anything she did though, but it makes her a more interesting character. Actually now I'm looking forward to seeing her more in the manga as I'm gonna hop into it.
There is a word that perfectly describes this anime: Precious. This was so wholesome man, all the character interactions and progression and stuff.
Can't forget the OP and ED, they are so upbeat it just... make me happy.
A season 2 of this would be a godsend. P.A. Works are on a roll!
10/10

strange guy • 10 months ago

More like a 7 or 8/10 honestly

Whoever • 10 months ago

7 is far to low
8 is almost right

ohmiodio • 10 months ago

on MAL its 8.25. and honestly if it wasnt for the Ririka sideplot it'd be higher. (not Cause Ririka is bad, it's just not very well explained at all. so she just feels like a meanie doing meanie things)

antumbra • 10 months ago

This show could be such a sweet, good-feeling anime if there wasn't a character like Ririka. My enjoyment was cut in half because of her.

ohmiodio • 10 months ago

i feel like Ririka was introduced badly and characterized worse. it could have been a very nuanced and flawed character to which you may feel simphathetic with after the initial harsh judjement. but they made her feel like such a one dimentional child character i can see why most people would discard her outright.

strange guy • 10 months ago

Not for this anime in my opinion not bad show though

Anime & Rutabagas • 10 months ago

Shame that some people skipped and loafed around with this series xD

Going to miss this mainly Mitsumi T^T lol

Paradise SLU • 10 months ago

Agreed.

reiko • 10 months ago

One of the most wholesome series this season!! I hope that they announce se as well..we need to see more of their journey and growth except ririka ofc

strange guy • 10 months ago

We probably will given that this series still has a lot of content to adapt

reiko • 10 months ago

Yeah it get better later on as well!!

P.A. Works is back with another sleeper hit. Skip and Loafer follow the story of Iwakura Mitsumi, a country girl who left her hometown to join a high school in Tokyo. The story follows the generic 'boy meets girl' formula which has been done to dead but you can't judge the show from that premise alone. The strength of the show lies in the character department; especially, their relationship. Instead of focusing on romance, 'Skip and Loafer' is more about the characters supporting each other to grow up and overcome their shortcomings. And that makes the story feels engaging without overarching drama. Well. Not until the last episode, at least.

Mitsumi is easily my best girl of the season. I like her outgoing attitude but, even so, she has her own concern, and that adds depth to her character. Not to mention Tomoyo Kurosawa (Kumiko) really suits her well; especially her accent.

The animation quality is within P.A. Works' high standards. The warm and fuzzy color palette really goes well with the tone of the story. The OP "Mellow" might not be my favorite of this season, but its catchy tunes make me frequently repeat it many times in my playlist. While I barely listen to Hanauta to Mawari Michi outside the anime, its chilling tone is perfect for ending the episode of this fluffy SOL.

Overall, I really enjoyed this a lot. While the story opens up for another season, we rarely get a second season from P.A. Works, so I keep my finger crossed. 8.5/10 from me.

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 10 months ago

*Iwakura by the way.

It's hard to proofread the names when the text is long lol
Thanks, anyway.

I make spelling mistakes and omit words by accident more often than I'd like so I get it.

Whoever • 10 months ago

Narcissist? what a mild translation 😉 in early kickass version it was translated as Self-centered bit*ch 😁

Time. • 10 months ago

Ugh hated the attitude she was giving to Sousuke Mom. Like, your mother or not, you better show her respect yk.

On the other hand Chris is a big W

Archie Andrew's 1000 • 10 months ago

She was >m<

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 10 months ago

I'm so glad Shima's finally moving on from the scandal that happened when they were younger and I am also glad Chris called Ririka out on her guilt tripping. I was wondering what was going to happen after the play, I thought she was going to comment on his acting but it was better than I thought.

It was nice to hear Sousuke say he's having fun at school and hopefully because he's decided to move forward, he'll be able to himself a bit more, it feels like he's already opening up towards the end of the episode with that cute scene with Mitsumi.

I felt bad for Sousuke's mother though, Ririka's attitude towards were was completely uncalled for. Even if we assume she was involved in pushing Sousuke to act again, what gave her the right to speak to her so disrespectfully like that? She is not helping herself by being so openly rude like that when she's a celebrity and as a person.

As an audience, knowing Sousuke's mother wanted to attend her son's play because she's most likely aware that he hasn't been doing any acting and with their relationship at home kind of distant, she was probably trying to get to know more of her current son so I felt really bad that she couldn't even do that. That Ririka's words had such an effect on her that she thought maybe it is not her place to be there, WHEN IT'S HER SON. That scene really rubbed me the wrong way.

I am actually glad Mitsumi realized what Ririka was doing, that smile put me off so I liked that Mitsumi tried to protect Sousuke. And then we realize that it wasn't even Sousuke that brought her to the karaoke place, she had ignored Sousuke's suggestion and went anyways.

Anyways, it was nice to see Sousuke and Keiri being wholesome together and I hope if this gets another season, we can see their brotherly relationship develop further. I like how this ended without some big romantic ending, you could just tell things have improved between them already and that's enough. However, I'd definitely watch another season lol.

Anteater mitsumi is so cute lol

Skip to Loafer is brought to you by PA Works, the studio behind Angel Beats, Another, Charlotte, Shirobako, Kongming, Akiba Maid War, Kamisama ni Natta Hi, Buddy Daddies, Sakura Quest, Fairy Gone, and more!

PA's been on a roll lately over the last year, with Kongming considered one of the best anime of Spring 2022, Akiba Maid War being the wild ride last fall, and dropping Buddy Daddies back in January. So how does this hold up?

For starters, I gotta say, I LOVE the cast in this. Wholesome shows are such an easy sell for me. In terms of characters taking a more realistic stance, it's better handled than what My Home Hero did, and I'd argue it has better romance than the likes of Galaxy Next Door.

The art and animation is rather simple, but cute. OP is easily one of my favorites this season, but I just love the ED by Rikako Aida. Can't wait to see her reprise her role as Riko Sakurachi in the upcoming Love Live Sunshine spinoff Sunshine in the Mirror this summer! Overall, this show is by far one of the best shows this season, and like with their recent works, not only is this another hit for PA, I'd say this is easily the best anime out of the 4 they recently dropped. If you want more wholesome romance, I'd check out Kubo-san, Tonikawa, or Insomiacs After School.
Final Verdict: 9/10
